We almost never do anything the easy way but this recipe is simple and makes a really fresh, spicy Bloody Mary.  Some Dave's Hurtin' Habanero Hot Sauce and a pinch of freshly ground cayenne pepper really heats this one up and gives it a very distinctive flavor - the perfect way to get a late start on Sunday.

Ingredients

  • celery salt
  • 2 to 2 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 6 ounces tomato juice
  • 1/2 tsp creamed horseradish
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • Dave's Hurtin' Habanero Hot Sauce to taste
  • pinch of freshly ground cayenne pepper
  • cracked black pepper to taste
  • ice cubes

Garnish

  • 2 green olives (I use jalapeno stuffed olives)
  • stalk of celery
  • lime wedges

Directions

  1. Sprinkle some celery salt on a plate.  We will use this to rim the serving glasses.  Next, run a lime wedge around the rim of your serving glass to moisten.  Dip the rim of the glass in celery salt.  Fill the glass halfway with ice cubes (about 6 or 7 cubes) and set the glass aside.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.  Add one or two drops of Dave's Hurtin' Habanero Hot Sauce.  You can add more if you like but two is perfect for me.  Add worcestershire sauce, lime juice and horseradish.
  3. Add vodka, tomato juice and cayenne then crack some pepper into the glass.  Shake well and pour into your rimmed serving glass.
  4. Garnish with a celery stalk and finish with olives and a lime on a toothpick.

Tips

If you're not sure about how much hot sauce to add then put it in last. You can always add more but you can't take it away once it's mixed.

Two please. I love hot and spicy bloody marys. They are my fave. Las Vegas drink. I just wish it was a celebration drink but unfortunately, it's more like a drown your sorrows kind of drink.

Well I hope you don't have too many sorrows to drown. For me it's a little hair of the dog on the now rare occasion when I drink.
